If you’re undertaking a construction project you’ve probably considered everything from blueprints to contractors. However, a common mistake when planning construction is failing to account for clean-up and disposal. What will you do with all the waste left behind? Here are some popular projects that can benefit from an appropriate disposal plan:
Building
Most of the materials you bring on to the lot are going to go into the building. Still, leftover packaging, wood trimmings, and excess other products that will need to be disposed of upon completion. An efficient clean-up plan is a must for larger projects such as office buildings, parking lots, or stadiums. If the construction will be going on for a long time, then you’ll need regularly scheduled pick-ups.
Remodeling
Remodeling or renovation projects might have minimal amounts of materials that need to be disposed of, but they still need somewhere to go. Having a waste pick-up date that can be changed according to the schedule of the job means that you won’t have any lingering waste that gets in the way. Don’t forget about landscaping or junk-hauling. If you need a one-time pick-up of any project that will have leftover materials, be sure to plan ahead.
Demolition
Demolition obviously entails a lot of waste disposal. You’ll need multiple dumpsters to separate materials for potential recycling or disposal. This will save you money in the long run. Consult ahead of time so that the job isn’t stalled.

Recycling is the first step in doing your part to help the environment and cut down on waste. Not only does recycling building material help the environment, it’s also much more affordable for new buildings. If you’re undertaking a construction project and will have leftover waste, be sure to check if it can be reused. Here’s a list of five materials that can be efficiently recycled:
Concrete
Concrete is used to make streets, sidewalks, and the foundation of most buildings. If you’re demolishing a building and have leftover chunks of concrete, don’t cast them away. Find a local processing center that takes concrete debris and reformulates it to be used in the construction of new buildings. Recycling concrete, asphalt, or brick requires a fraction of the cost of disposal fees.
Drywall
Many homes are surrounded by drywall. When removing or adding to an existing drywall structure, consider using recycled drywall to reduce costs.
Roofing
The way asphalt shingles are engineered allows them to be reused quite effectively with current technology. Be sure to separate the materials as you dispose to make the process easier.
Metals
Almost anything metal, from aluminum siding to radiators, can be recycled. Be sure to separate copper wires, nails, and galvanized bindings, as they all must be recycled independently. Metals retain their value when recycled, so recycling them rather than disposing of them can allow you to defray demolition costs.
Insulation
Insulation used to help climate control in buildings can be reused so long as it doesn’t pose a health hazard.
