Are you an architect or a community planner? If so, then you have probably already heard of LEED certification. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is awarded to both designers and builders who commit themselves to incorporating green elements into their projects.
You can learn about the process of getting your LEED certification in this video. LEED training is offered online through the US Green Building Council. Using this training, you can take and pass an exam to receive your LEED certification within 2-3 months.
Help keep your next building project green by choosing a rental dumpster company who recycles using the LEED approved methods. For projects here in New York, choose Rent Dumpsters, where we recycle all eligible material from our dumpster rentals.

From LEED recycling to eco-friendly rubbish removal, green alternative choices have been making their way in cities around the globe. Many buildings attempt to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Certification Code to claim the title of a “green building”. Yet, how exactly does a building qualify to LEED recycling standards?
What is LEED?
LEED—Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design—is a certification system for eco-friendly buildings. To qualify for LEED certification, a project must demonstrate energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality and conservative resource management.
How to Achieve LEED Certification
To achieve LEED certification, a building’s environmental impact is graded on a 100-point scale. 10 additional points are awarded for architectural innovation and attention to region-specific environmental issues that relate to a community’s particular ecosystem. Points are distributed as follows:
- Sustainable Sites – 1-21 points
- Water Efficiency – 1-11 points
- Energy & Atmosphere – 1-37 points
- Materials & Resources – 1-14 points
- Indoor Environmental Quality – 1-17 points
Total = 100 points
Additional Points:
- Innovation in Design – 1-6 points
- Regional Priority – 1-4 points
Total= 110 points
How to Get Started
The first step towards LEED certification is learning more about the rating system. Next, go to the LEED website to register your building project. USGBC offers resources to help you on your way to LEED certification.

Whether you are a resident moving out of your home or a construction company owner working on a building project, a dumpster rental can be a really great convenience and can save you hours of DIY rubbish removal. Before you rent a dumpster though, it is important to realize what you can and can’t throw away. Most homes and businesses contain some hazardous materials that can’t be thrown into dumpsters that are headed to the local landfill. Read below to see how to deal with common hazardous materials you may find at your home or business.
Used Car Oil and Coolant – Many homeowners come across these materials when they go to clean out their garage before a big move. While it may be tempting to just throw the oil and coolant in your dumpster rental and forget about it, remember that it only takes one gallon of improperly disposed oil to contaminate a million gallons of groundwater. For these substances, check with your local car repair shop where they will usually take it and recycle it for little to no price.
Paint – Construction sites often have left over paint—oftentimes in great amounts. As you finish the job and clean up the work site, remember that putting the paint in your dumpsters can be hazardous, and sometimes even illegal. Thankfully, many cities have paint exchange programs, where people can turn in their old paint to be reused by another community resident or even the local Habitat for Humanity chapter.
At Rent Dumpsters, we are committed to green practices and environmental responsibility. As such, we remind all customers not to put any of the above in their dumpster rental. All appropriate materials that do end up in your rent dumpster will be processed using LEED recycling methods to further reduce our carbon footprint. Construction dumpsters are a critical component at any construction site for waste removal and keeping the job site looking clean and organized. Whether you’re working on a big build site or renovating a small commercial estate, dumpster rentals are a necessity. However, just like everything else you use on the job, it is important to follow certain safety precautions to ensure a safe environment.
Know What Belongs in a Dumpster: When loading a dumpster with debris, train your workers to know what belongs in the dumpster. On the job site, waste can accumulate fast, but don’t load the dumpster hastily. Be cautious and use foresight. Many dumpster rental services prohibit certain items in their dumpster receptacles, including hazardous and industrial waste, chemical products, pesticides, solvents, paint, antifreeze, batteries, and propane tanks.
Load Your Dumpster Carefully: Properly loading a dumpster rental is necessary to maintain its safety. Make sure things are organized and neat, and that the dumpster rental isn’t overflowing with debris.
Monitor Your Site: Don’t allow unauthorized or untrained persons within the premises of your construction site. Children tend to rummage around a dumpster or rubbish, so be cautious. Before your workers throw scrap wood into the rubbish removal piles, make sure to remove nails and screws that could injure unwary persons.
At Rent Dumpsters, we strive to provide construction, residential, and commercial properties with dumpster rentals that fit their needs.
